hello again!

Life is pretty crazy right now getting ready for the 5K in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS! I'm still having issues running for long periods of time. Right around 15 minutes I pretty much die and have to walk for 2-3 minutes before I can keep going. I'm going to keep pushing myself in the hopes of being able to run the full distance of the race so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Yesterday Steve and I went over to my in-law's house and pressure washed it for them. It wasn't too bad except for the fact that it was freezing cold! It turned out okay though since they made a low country boil for dinner.

While we were there my mother-in-law told us that once we get a china cabinet she is going to give us the china she got when Steve's family lived in Germany. Since we already have somewhere to put it, she gave us the crystal stemware that goes with it last night!

I love them! Call me crazy but I prefer to own and use things that have a history. I don't mind mismatched pieces as long as each piece has a story. I'm looking forward to being able to use these!

my husband rocks Friday!

My husband has been gone all week getting some training for his job. It's great that his company wants to give him these opportunities but it also sucks because I miss him. Everyone needs alone time every now and then but weeks at a time are not fun.

Anyway, about 5 minutes ago I got a call from Steve letting me know that the airline had room on an earlier flight and let him switch with no penalty! Now, instead of him getting home around 10:00 tonight I get to pick him up on my way home from work!

I love surprises. :)

Stay tuned this weekend for pictures of our new furniture!

patience

I am not a patient person. It's a huge weakness of mine and leads to incredible frustration and jealousy. Lately I have really really been struggling to keep that jealousy at bay. Some days are harder than others but even the better days have been harder lately.

I've always prayed for patience but I think I finally understand that what I really need is peace and a willingness to let go of the frustration.

Two things happened today to bring me to this realization:
1. I heard this song on the radio: You're Gonna Miss This by Trace Atkins - It reminded me that I've got it pretty good right now even if it isn't everything I've ever wanted.
2. I ran across this quote as I was reading this afternoon: "Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That's laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow - that's patience" - It made me realize that it's okay to be a little frustrated but you have to be willing to work through it if you ever want to get where you're going.

Is this a magical cure for my crazy jealousy? No.
Does it make everything all better and take away the frustration? No.

However, it does make me take a second or two to think and remember that life isn't a race and maybe, just maybe, I should put a bit more trust in the one with the plan. And that one or two seconds is a start.

Happy Spring[ish] Break!

Spring break has started for the University I work for which means that I don't have to work late at all this week. It also means that student traffic in the library will be light and less people will stop by to ask random questions about the "hidden" rooms upstairs.

To kick off spring break the Board of Regents gave us all a furlough day which, for those unfamiliar with the term, is a day when the entire campus is closed in an effort to save money. You don't see me complaining. I'll take a free day any way it comes.

On this semi-spring-like day off I am going to be cleaning the apartment and making preparations for next weekend. Steve and I bought new furniture for our living room and it is being delivered on saturday! I'll post pictures once everything is situated.

New Moon also comes out on DVD this Saturday... so excited!

So excited!

Our wedding photographer just emailed me to let me know our wedding album is on it's way to us! Eeek! So freaking excited!

Ok, so some of you may be thinking "didn't you get married in July?" And you would be correct. But, with the move, me being super anal about choosing pictures and the album company messing it up the first time (which my photographer caught and corrected for me) it has taken a little longer than usual.

I'll post pictures when it gets here but I'm ridiculously excited. I love the pictures from our wedding and I can't wait to have our album to show them off more! I must say, my photographer, Carolin of MPC Photography, has been incredible through all of this. Since the first time we met with her until now there has never been a single time I have ever been anything other than completely satisfied with her services. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs a photographer.

Last but not least: My Husband Rocks!

Seriously, he truly does. Yesterday, when the Eclipse trailer premiered, he sent me a text and email with the link so I wouldn't miss it. He has also already agreed to go see it with me the week it comes out. (side note: opening night crowds freak me out which is why we aren't going opening night.) Having a husband that humors my fangirl tendencies rocks. :)

one month and an idea

Yesterday I had another awful flare up of my IBS. It was so bad I couldn't make it in to work. This has happened at least once per month since moving to Savannah and twice in the last two weeks. To say I'm concerned is a bit of an understatement.

However, today while I was in line at subway getting lunch I came to a bit of a realization. My "usual" is the black forest ham sandwich on 9 grain honey oat bread. It is incredibly delicious but the ham could be the cause of the increase in flare ups... or at least the ones this month. Ever since I was first diagnosed with IBS red meat has been a huge trigger food for me... which is sad since I like it and my family has an entire holiday celebrating it (seriously, it's called steak saturday and involves a trophy called the golden fork). I can eat it and be fine but only every now and then and only in small amounts.

Now, most people wouldn't count ham as red meat since it's pork but in the last month I've been eating more ham than usual (thanks to my increased amount of lunches at subway and sunday dinners at the in-laws) and tada! More issues! So, I am going to add ham to my list of foods to watch out for and see if that helps.

Finally..... it is officially one month until my 5K! Woohoo!

defining success

I did week 5 day 3 today (yeah, I know, a little off track there but at least I got myself back). I didn't quite make it the full 20 minutes. Around 12 minutes in I power walked for about 1.5-2 minutes and finished the rest running.

Technically this should be considered failure, but I can't bring myself to see it that way. It's better than I've ever done before! I truly cannot find it in me to be disappointed especially considering that I ate like crap this weekend and haven't run in four days. In all honesty, I should have repeated week 5 day 2 before moving on after that gap for a more accurate idea of my ability but meh. I wanted to try and keep moving forward. Wednesday I'll try again.

Tomorrow I'm getting back into the strength training that I started a couple weeks ago. That cruise is coming up soon and I want to feel good in a bathing suit before I get on that boat!
